This performance standard specifies a universal method of measuring the dimensional change of friction materials to determine the effects of temperature. The test applies to both disc and drum type linings commonly used in hydraulic and air brake systems for automotive and commercial vehicle applications. This standard describes two main test procedures. Method A, where the friction material is in contact with a heated surface to simulate the heat input to the pad that occurs during actual usage. Method B uses an oven to heat the freestanding material and is na approximate procedure requiring less instrumentaiton. Method A is recommended for disc brake pad

This recommended practice is derived from common test sequences used within the industry. This procedure applies to all on-road passenger cars and light trucks up to 4 540 kg of GVWR. This recommended practice does not address other aspects such as performance, NVH, and durability. Test results from this recommended practice should be combined with other measurements and dynamometer tests (or vehicle-level tests), and acceptance criteria to validate a given design or configuration. This recommended practice establishes a minimum evaluation procedure for brake rotor thermal cracking.

This SAE Recommended Practice shall cover mechanical- readjust stroke indicators for actuators with visible exposed pushrods and electrical-readjust stroke indicators for all air-brake actuators. This device shall indicate the foundation brake(s) may require adjustment or service when inspected per vehicle manufacturer's procedures. A measurement shall be made to determine actual stroke measurement for any system not factor calibrated. Stroke indication accuracy of an air-brake actuator can be assured only when all of its components are supplied by the original brake actuator manufacturer. This document establishes design guidelines for air-brake actuator stroke indicators.

This SAE Recommended Practice establishes dimensions and tolerances for the interface between inboard mounted disc brake rotors and disc wheel hubs. The geometric features described in this document are shown at true position. This document is intended for inboard mounted disc brake rotors and disc wheel hubs for Class 5, 6, 7, and 8 commercial vehicles. Special and less common applications are not covered. This document defines and documents the dimensions and tolerances necessary to maintain interchangeability in the interface of disc brake rotors and hubs. It is intended to provide direction for future designs and aid in industry standardization. This document uses the practice of defining hub and rotor mounting systems. Components of different mounting systems, but with common bolt patterns could be mis-assembled and cause service problems. Therefore, it is important to note that each mounting system should be treated individually and their components not be intermixed. It should also be noted that images shown are typical of the various hub and rotor systems. However, other variants may exist.
