1.1 This specification covers zinc coatings applied by the hot-dip process on iron and steel hardware. The hot-dip galvanizing process consists of parts being immersed in molten zinc for a sufficient time to allow a metallurgical reaction between iron from the steel surface and the molten zinc, resulting in the formation of Zn/Fe alloy layers bonding the coating to the steel surface. 1.2 This specification is intended to be applicable to hardware items that are centrifuged or otherwise handled to remove excess galvanizing bath metal (free zinc). Coating thickness grade requirements reflect this. 1.3 This specification is applicable to orders in either inch-pound units (as A153) or in SI units (as A153M). Inch-pound units and SI units are not necessarily exact equivalents. Within the text of this specification and where appropriate, SI units are shown in brackets. Each system shall be used independently of the other without combining values in any way. In the case of orders in SI units, all testing and inspection shall be done using the metric equivalent of the test or inspection method as appropriate. In the case of orders in SI units, such shall be stated to the galvanizer when the order is placed. 1.4 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety and health practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.

This European Standard applies to cylinders and their keys for such locks as are normally used in buildings and are designed to be used with cylinders, where the locks have an operational torque of maximum 1,2 Nm. This European Standard specifies performance and other requirements for the strength, security, durability, performance and corrosion resistance of cylinders and their original keys. It establishes one category of use, three grades of durability, three grades for fire and four grades corrosion resistance all based on performance tests as well as six grades of key related security based on design requirements and five grades on performance tests that simulate attack. This European Standard includes tests of satisfactory operation at a range of temperatures. It specifies test methods to be used on cylinders and their protective measures linked with these cylinders and recommended by the manufacturer. Corrosion resistance is specified by reference to the requirements of EN 1670 on corrosion resistance of building hardware. The suitability of cylinders for use on fire or smoke-door assemblies is determined by fire performance tests conducted in addition to the performance testing required by this standard. Since suitability for use on fire doors is not essential in every situation the manufacturer has the option to state if the cylinder conforms to these additional requirements or not. If so claimed, cylinders will comply with the requirements in Annex A. On occasions there may be a need for additional functions within the design of the cylinder. Purchasers should satisfy themselves that the products are suitable for their intended use.

This European Standard specifies requirements for performance and testing of electrically controlled exit systems, specifically designed for use in an emergency or panic situation on escape routes. This European Standard covers electrically controlled exit systems that are either manufactured and placed on the market in their entirety by one manufacturer or assembled from sub-assemblies produced by more than one manufacturer and subsequently placed on the market as a kit in a single transaction. These electrically controlled exit systems consist of at least the following elements, separated or combined:- initiating element for requesting the release of electrical locking element in order to exit; - electrical locking element for securing an exit door; - electrical controlling element for supplying, connecting and controlling electrical locking element and initiating element; - in addition, these electrically controlled exit systems can include time delay and/or denied exit mode. The Products covered by this standard are intended to be used for doors on escape routes, on either fire or non-fire rated door assemblies. Examples of Products covered by this European Standard; - electrically controlled exit systems designed to be used in emergency situations, where people are familiar with the exit and its hardware; - electrically controlled exit systems designed to be used in panic situations, where people are not always familiar with the exit and its hardware; - electrically controlled exit systems for use on hinged or pivoted door leaves only; - a range of electrically controlled exit systems including those for use on double doorsets; - the exceptional case of electrically controlled exit systems intended for use on single leaf inwardly opening exit doors. It is assumed throughout this European Standard that exit doors generally open towards the outside in order to ensure safe escape. However, there are cases such as hospital or hotel bedroom doors, classroom doors, etc. where building authorities allow, by way of exception, the exit door to open against the direction of exit; Products not covered by this European Standard; - any particular design of electrically controlled exit systems and only such dimensions as are required for safety reasons are specified; - any other element of a security system, other than those directly involved in the control of an exit door; - mechanically operated exit devices containing electrical functions that are not related to release of an electrically locking element. Such devices are within the field of EN 1125 or EN 179; - electrically controlled exit systems intended for use on inwardly opening double doorsets. Electrically controlled exit systems intended for use by the severely disabled; due to the wide range of disabilities, such exit systems and their performances should be agreed between specifier and manufacturer.

This European Standard is applicable to hinged/pivoted and sliding doorsets with latches, for pedestrian use. It defines the classification of the test results for the forces and/or torques to open/close doors and to engage/release and lock/unlock the building hardware using a key or handle, after testing in accordance with EN 12046-2. It is only applicable to the manual operation of doorsets. The classification of forces for doorsets with self-closing devices engaged is excluded from this test method. It is also not applicable to doorsets with special hardware, e. g. emergency exit devices. The tests are applicable to doorsets of any material. The operation of some glazed doors (door high windows) involves hardware with latches and may be classified in accordance with this European Standard.
