GB/T 18311.26-2007 Fibre optic interconnecting devices and passive components Basic test and measurement procedures Part 3-26: Examinations and measurements Measurement of the angular misalignment between fibre and ferrule axes (English Version)
This standard specifies the procedure for measuring the angular misalignment between the fiber and the axis of the ferrule in the cylindrical ferrule of a connector equipped with a single-mode optical fiber. ·Overview This part specifies the measurement method for the angular deviation between the optical fiber and the axis of the ferrule in the cylindrical ferrule of the single-mode fiber optic connector. Angular misalignment is defined as the angle δ between the axis of the ferrule and the axis of the installed fiber (see Figure l). The angular deviation is measured by rotating the pin around the axis and measuring the offset of the spot center of the pin in the far-field azimuth pattern. In a fiber optic connector, the characteristic value of its angular misalignment is generally in the range of a few tenths of degrees. The diameter of the light spot (white light source) at 5 mlTl from the pin surface is about 1 mm. When the connector is rotated, the offset value of the spot is about 1/100 of the spot diameter (the offset value of the spot corresponding to the angular deviation of 0.0 at 5 mm from the fiber surface is 45 μm). To be able to measure such a small offset with a high level of precision requires the use of automatic controls. In addition, the spot shift caused by the fiber is also affected by the slope of the fiber surface relative to the axis of the ferrule. The deflection values here conform to Snell's law. The degree of influence of the tilt can be calculated by the radius of curvature and the eccentricity of the reflection point. See Notes and Explanations on this subject. Appendix A.
