Scope
This part of GB 16915 applies to manually-operated general-purpose switches for household and similar fixed electrical installations for alternating current only, rated voltage not exceeding 440 V and rated current not exceeding 63 A, for indoor or outdoor use. Switches fitted with screwless terminals are rated for a maximum of 16 A. Note 1: An extension of the applicability to switches with a rated voltage above 440 V is under consideration. This standard also applies to mounting boxes for switches, but not for mounting boxes for flush-mounted switches. Note 2: See GB 17466 for requirements on mounting boxes for concealed switches. This section also applies to: - switches equipped with signal lamps; - electromagnetic remote control switches (the special requirements are given in Part 2); - switches equipped with delay devices (the special requirements are given in Part 2 ); - switches with a combination of switches and other functions (but not for switches combined with fuses); - electronic switches (the special requirements of which are given in Part 2); - with flexible cable retention devices And the switch of the flexible cable outlet device (see Appendix B). Note 3: The minimum length of the flexible cable used by the above switches may be specified by the national wiring regulations. Switches complying with the requirements of this standard are suitable for use in ambient temperatures which normally do not exceed 35°C but occasionally reach 40°C. Note 4: Switches complying with the requirements of this standard are only suitable for use in equipment where neither the installation method nor the installation position will allow the ambient temperature around the switch to exceed 40 °C. In special environments, such as switches used in vehicles, ships, and places where explosions may occur, special structures may be required.
