This standard specifies the general operating rules for the manual operation parts that form a part of the human-machine interface related to electrical equipment. The operator performs normal and real-time operations. The various rules stipulated in this standard are not only applicable to the operation of electrical equipment, mechanical equipment or complete sets of equipment under normal conditions, but also to the operation under failure and emergency conditions. This standard is intended for general application with operating elements ranging from a single operating element (such as a push button) to multiple operating elements in large installations consisting of electrical and non-electrical equipment or as part of a central process control station. This standard establishes a corresponding relationship between the function of an operating element and its operating direction, or the position of other operating elements. In the absence of special provisions, this standard can also be used for operating devices (such as pedal devices) manipulated by other parts of the human body other than hands.
