The transformer should be able to withstand the thermal and dynamic stabilization effects of an external short circuit without damage under the conditions specified in Article 1.2 of this standard. External short circuits include three-phase short circuits, phase-to-phase short circuits, two-phase ground faults, and phase-to-ground faults. The currents induced by these faults in the windings are referred to in this standard as "overcurrents".
