IEC 61010-1:2010 specifies general safety requirements for the following types of electrical equipment and their accessories, wherever they are intended to be used. a) Electrical test and measurement equipment b) Electrical industrial process-control equipment c) Electrical laboratory equipment This third edition cancels and replaces the second edition published in 2001. It constitutes a technical revision. This edition includes the following significant changes from the second edition, as well as numerous other changes. - The scope of the standard has been expanded to include all locations where these products may be used, so that both professional and non-professional versions of these products are within the scope. - The requirements for testing and measuring circuits (in various subclauses and the entirety of Clause 16) have been removed and included in a particular standard IEC 61010-2-030. - Insulation requirements (6.7) have been completely rewritten. - Additional requirements for protection against mechanical HAZARDS (Clause 7) have been included. - Surface temperature limits (Clause 10) have been modified to conform to the limits of EN 563. - Radiation requirements (Clause 12) have been modified, and take into account a distinction between intended emission and unintended emission. - Requirements for reasonably foreseeable misuse and ergonomic aspects have been added (Clause 16). - A new clause (Clause 17) has been added to deal with HAZARDS and environments not covered by the standard, along with a new informative annex (Annex J) dealing with RISK assessment. - A new informative annex (Annex E) addresses methods of reducing the POLLUTION DEGREE of a micro-environment. - Requirements for the qualification of coatings for protection against POLLUTION have been added (Annex H). - A new informative annex (Annex I) has been added to further explain how to determine the WORKING VOLTAGE of a MAINS CIRCUIT. It has the status of a group safety publication, as specified in IEC Guide 104. The contents of the corrigendum 1 of May 2011, the interpretation sheet 1 of February 2013 and the corrigendum 2 of October 2013 have been included in this copy.

1.1 This test method covers a means of testing the interlaminar resistance of electrically insulating coatings as applied to adjacent laminations of flat-rolled electrical steel, under predetermined conditions of voltage, pressure and temperature. It indicates the effectiveness of surface coatings on electrical sheet steels for limiting interlaminar losses in electrical machinery. The interlaminar resistance is measured directly in units of resistance (kΩ). 1.2 This test method is particularly useful for, but not limited to, electrical steels coated with inorganic insulating coatings. 1.3 The values and equations stated in customary (cgs-emu and inch-pound) or SI units are to be regarded separately as standard. Within this standard, SI units are shown in brackets. The values stated in each system may not be exact equivalents; therefore, each system shall be used independently of the other. Combining values from the two systems may result in nonconformance with this standard. 1.4 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety, health, and environmental practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use. 1.5 This international standard was developed in accordance with internationally recognized principles on standardization established in the Decision on Principles for the Development of International Standards, Guides and Recommendations issued by the World Trade Organization Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) Committee.

1 Scope and object This clause of Part 1 is applicable, except as follows: 1.1.1 Equipment included in the scope Replacement: Replace the first paragraph by the following: This group safety publication is primarily intended to be used as a product safety standard for the products mentioned in the scope, but shall also be used by technical committees in the preparation of their publications for products similar to those mentioned in the scope of this standard, in accordance with the principles laid down in IEC guide 104 and ISO/IEC Guide 51. This Part 2 of IEC 61010 specifies particular safety requirements for the following types a) to c) of electrical equipment and their accessories, wherever they are intended to be used, whenever that equipment incorporates REFRIGERATING SYSTEMS whether an integral part of, or remote to the equipment and the equipment is in direct control of the REFRIGERATING SYSTEM. This Part 2 details all the requirements when up to 150 g of FLAMMABLE REFRIGERANT are used per stage of a REFRIGERATING SYSTEM. Additional requirements beyond the current scope of this standard apply if a refrigerant charge of FLAMMABLE REFRIGERANT exceeds this amount. Addition: Add the following text after the last paragraph: NOTE 101 Examples for REFRIGERATING EQUIPMENT include, but are not limited to, laboratory equipment such as laboratory refrigerators, freezers, refrigerated display cabinets, etc. If all or part of the equipment falls within the scope of one or more other Part 2 standards of IEC 61010 as well as within the scope of this standard, it should also meet the requirement of those other Part 2 standards, In particular, if equipment is intended to be used as a centrifuge, it should meet the requirements of IEC 61010-2-020. However, when the equipment incorporates a REFRIGERATING SYSTEM and a heating function where the combination of the two introduces additional or more sever HAZARDS than if treated separately then the application of IEC 61010-2-012 should be considered instead of this Part 2. See further information in the flow chart for the selection process and guidance in the Introduction. 1.1.2 Equipment excluded from scope Addition: Add the following new item after item j): aa) equipment incorporating transcritical refrigerant system (system that use CO2) or system that use ammonia (NH3) as the refrigerant.

1 Scope and object This clause of Part 1 is applicable except as follows: 1.1.1 Equipment included in scope Replacement: Replace the first paragraph by the following: This group safety publication is primarily intended to be used as a product safety standard for the products mentioned in the scope, but shall also be used by technical committees in the preparation of their publications for products similar to those mentioned in the scope of this standard, in accordance with the principles laid down in IEC Guide 104 and lSO/lEC Guide 51. This Part 2 of IEC 61010 specifies safety requirements for electrical equipment and their accessories within the categories a) through c), wherever they are intended to be used, whenever that equipment incorporates one or more of the following characteristics: – A REFRIGERATING SYSTEM that is acted on or impacted by an integral heating function such that the combined heating and cooling system generates additional and/or more severe HAZARDS than those for the two systems if treated separately. – The materials being treated in the intended application introduce significant heat into the REFRIGERATING SYSTEM that the cooling system in the application yield additional and/or more severe HAZARDS than those for the cooling system if operated at the maximum RATED ambient alone. – An irradiation function for the materials being treated presenting additional HAZARDS. – A function to expose the materials being treated to excessive humidity, carbon dioxide, salt mist, or other substances which may result in additional HAZARDS. – A function of MECHANICAL MOVEMENT presenting additional HAZARDS. – Provision for an OPERATOR to walk-in to the operating area to load or unload the materials being treated. Addition: Add the following text after the last paragraph: NOTE 101 Examples of such equipment include environmental testing and plant growth TEST CHAMBERS, refrigerating CIRCULATORS which incorporate heating, recirculating coolers for extracting heat. If all or part of the equipment falls within the scope of one or more other Part 2 standards of IEC 61010 as well as within the scope of this standard, it should also meet the requirements of those other Part 2 standards. However, when the equipment incorporates only a REFRIGERATING SYSTEM or only a heating function or a combination of the two without introducing additional HAZARDS described in the above dashed paragraphs then the application of IEC 61010-2-011 or IEC 61010-2-010 or both, as applicable, shall be considered instead of this Part 2. See further information in the flow chart for selection process and guidance in the INTRODUCTION. NOTE 102 Subclause 3.1.107 and Annex BB provides definition and requirements for protection of people who are inside WALK-IN EQUIPMENT.
