This part of IEC 60297 specifies dimensions and physical properties of chassis and associated printed boards in order to provide mechanical and environmental integrity for embedded computing devices. They are used in various applications such as machine control, medical, transportation, aerospace and telecommunication, typically based on single board computers. For the easy definition of the suitable chassis and associated single board dimensions, this standard is based on a structural grid of 44,45 mm (1,75 in).

This part of IEC 60297 covers the connector dependent interface dimensions for subracks and plug-in units in accordance with subracks of IEC 60297-3-101. In this part of IEC 60297, the two-part connectors of the series IEC 60603-2, IEC 61076-4-101, IEC 61076-4-113 are concerned. Since the connector specific standards contain the dimensions of the connectors only, it is the intention of this part of IEC 60297 to introduce the related subrack and plug-in unit interface dimensions if the connectors mentioned are applied. This standard will also provide dimensional guidelines for the implementation of other connectors by definition of the relationship between subrack mounting pitches and the position of board- type plug-in units and backplanes.

This part of IEC 60917 provides additional dimensions for a modular range of subracks and associated plug-in units based on IEC 60917-2-2. A typical subrack consists of a frame design with mounting dimensions for installation into racks or cabinets in accordance with IEC 60917-2-1. The aperture dimensions of a subrack are specified in order to meet the mounting dimensions of front plug-in units. This part of IEC 60917 comprises – additional dimensions for subracks and subrack associated plug-in units with injector/extractor handle; – dimensions for basic electromagnetic shielding provisions; – dimensions of the key/coding system for subrack and plug-in units; – dimensions of the alignment pin for front panel and plug-in unit; – dimensions of electrostatic discharge provisions; – dimensions of rear-mounted plug-in units. Connector-related dimensions are given in Annex A. In order to ensure the compatibility of plug-in units into the subrack, inspection dimensions and connector-dependent dimensions are defined. NOTE The drawings used in this part of IEC 60917 are not intended to indicate product design, only the specific dimensions that are used.

This Technical Specification provides guidelines for the installation of thermoelectrical cooling systems (Peltier effect) within cabinets of the IEC 60297 (19 inch) and IEC 60917 (25 mm) series. The cooling performance is in direct relation with the mounting location within a cabinet. Three typical mounting locations are identified: – mounting location 1: cabinet with inside or outside mounted thermoelectrical cooling system for the cooling of a whole cabinet; – mounting location 2: cabinet with top mounted thermoelectrical cooling system for the cooling of a whole cabinet; – mounting location 3: cabinet with inbuilt thermoelectrical cooling system in form of a subrack for hot spot cooling.

This section of IEC 917-2 is a detail specification which is to be used in whole or in part in all fields of electronics where devices and systems are designed according to the sectional specification IEC 917-2. The dimensions in the tables of this detail specification are a selection from the sectional specification IEC 917-2. All other sizes from the sectional specification are valid in this detail specification provided the relationship between the dimensions is maintained, i.e. the dimensional difference between the co-ordination dimensions HC ,Wc and Dc and dimensions Hc0, Hc1 , Hc2 ; Wc0 , Wc1 and Dco, Dc1 shown in tables 1, 2 and 3 are to be maintained. The purpose of this publication is the specification of dimensions which will ensure mechanical interchangeability of cabinets and racks, and ensure mechanical interchangeability for subrack mounting. Cabinets and racks can be arranged together to form larger operating units. Application of specific cabinets or racks, attachments and accessories, such as heat exchangers, control elements, switches, etc. does not form part of this specification.

This International Standard provides a method of thermal performance evaluation for empty indoor enclosures according to IEC 60917 and IEC 60297, and, for outdoor enclosures according to IEC 61969. This standard contains criteria to determine the thermal absorption factors relating to – principles of enclosure design; – internal heat load; – sun radiation. The enclosure absorption factor is intended to provide a common value for comparing and selecting enclosures built in accordance with this standard.

This section of IEC 917-2 is a detail specification which is to be used in whole or in part in all fields of electronics where devices and systems are designed according to the sectional specification IEC 917-2. The purpose of this publication is the specification of dimensions which will ensure mechanical interchangeability of subracks, chassis, plug-in units, backplanes and front panels. The sectional specification IEC 917-2 has embodied within it a number of subrack systems based on 25 mm three-dimensional modularity and the binary additive principle for subrack heights. The dimensions in the tables of this detail specification are based on one of the subrack systems taken from the sectional specification IEC 917-2. However, all subrack systems within the sectional specification are valid in this detail specification, provided the relationship between the dimensions is maintained, i.e. the dimensional difference between the co-ordination dimensions HS, Ws and DS and dimensions HS0 , etc.; WS0 , etc., and Dso,etc., shown in tables 1, 2 and 3 are to be maintained. The subrack dimensions are related to certain cabinet/rack dimensions, see IEC 917-2-1. The front panel dimensions are related to the mounting dimensions of certain cabinets and racks, see IEC 917-2-1. Plug-in units are mounted in subracks. They serve as supports for electrical, electronic and mechanical components. The electrical connection between plug-in units and subracks is based on the use of connectors. All dimensions are given in millimetres and the drawings are first angle projections.

This part of IEC 61969 applies to the design of enclosures for outdoor applications for stationary use at non weatherprotected locations as defined in IEC 61969-1 Ed.2.0. The internal and external coordination dimensions are derived from IEC 60917-2. The internal dimensions meet the mounting dimensions of subracks in accordance with IEC 60917-2-2 and IEC 60297-3. The external dimensions, compared to IEC 60917-2, are partly increased in order to meet the design requirements of the outdoor specific conditions.
