This specification establishes the minimum requirements for the hydrostatic resistance or "waterproofness" of fabrics coated with rubber or plastics. This document does not cover water repellency or water resistance of the same materials. The test specimens should be cut to specifications and at random from a roll of coated fabric. The hydrostatic tester should be able to apply the required amount of pressure and sustain it for a specified time. The apparatus should be equipped with two concentric ring clamps with rounded inside edges to avoid cutting the specimen. The lower clamp should be fitted with a seal to prevent leakage during testing.

1.1 This specification covers the requirements for vinylcoated glass yarn insect screening and louver cloth. 1.2 This specification is intended to assist ultimate users by designating the sizes and types of these products that are generally available in the industry. 1.3 This specification shows the terminology and requirements for: 1.3.1 Commercial standard vinyl-coated glass yarn insect screening designed and woven primarily for installation in or on any dwelling, patio, screening enclosure, building, or structure for the purpose of keeping out flies, mosquitoes, and most insects. 1.3.2 Vinyl-coated glass yarn louver cloth used extensively in soffit and louver vents to keep out most large insects, birds, and airborne litter, while at the same time providing for adequate ventilation and air circulation. 1.4 The values stated in either SI units or inch-pound units are to be regarded separately as standard. The values stated in each system are not necessarily exact equivalents; therefore, to ensure conformance with the standard, each system shall be used independently of the other, and values from the two systems shall not be combined. 1.5 The following precautionary caveat pertains only to the test methods portions, Sections 8 – 19, of this specification. This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. This document specifies a method for the determination of the resistance of fabrics coated with rubber or plastics to ozone cracking under static conditions. The test is designed to determine the relative resistance to cracking of fabric coated with rubber or plastics when exposed under static strain to air containing ozone in the absence of direct sunlight. Like all ageing tests, it should be considered as a means of comparing articles of the same composition and destined for the same application, but not as an absolute criterion. It is preferable to limit the significance of the test by considering it only as a means of control when a fabric attains a resistance superior to a threshold given in comparison with a certain type of degradation. Taking these remarks into account, the results obtained at the time of test cannot be taken as a prediction of the length of life of the product.
