1.1  This practice covers proposed selection of materials, installation techniques, and inspection required for sealing manholes using chemical grout. Manholes or sections of manholes with active leaks shall be repaired. Manholes to be grouted are of brick, block, cast-in-place concrete, precast concrete, or fiberglass construction. Manholes or sections of manholes with active leaks will be designated by the engineer, owner’s representative, or authorized inspector, for manhole grouting. 1.2  The contractor shall be responsible for furnishing all labor, supervision, materials, equipment, and inspection follow-up required for the completion of chemical grouting of manhole defects in accordance with the contract documents. 1.3  Materials, additives, mixture ratios, and procedures utilized for the grouting process shall be in accordance with manufacturer’s recommendations and shall be appropriate for the application. 1.4  The values stated in inch-pound units are to be regarded as standard. 1.1  This specification describes all the work required to structurally reinforce, seal, and protect sanitary sewer manholes. Applications include applying a prepackaged cementitious liner that can function as a full depth restoration or a partial depth repair. A uniform high-strength, fiber-reinforced cementitious mortar should be manually sprayed and hand troweled or centrifugally cast in a uniform, prescribed thickness to all cleaned, interior surfaces from the bottom of the frame to the bench. The cementitious liner may be applied to manholes constructed of brick, concrete, block, and various other materials. 1.2  A manufacturer’s approved applicator shall furnish the complete application of the protective, prepackaged cementitious liner material. All of the cleaning, preparation, and application procedures shall be in accordance with the manufacturer’s recommendations. 1.3  The values stated in inch-pound units are to be regarded as standard. 1.1 This specification covers material, geometric, and wall section properties of steel box culverts manufactured from corrugated plate or sheet, with or without attached stiffeners, for field assembly. Appropriate fasteners and optional materials such as steel invert plates and headwalls are also described. Applications for steel box culverts include conduits for gravity flow drainage of surface water such as culverts and storm drains, as well as for small bridges and grade separation structures such as pedestrian or vehicular underpasses, and utility tunnels. 1.2 This specification does not include requirements for foundations, backfill, or the relationship between earth cover or live loads and strength requirements. These important design considerations are described in the AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications, Customary U.S. Units (LRFD Bridge Design Specifications, SI Units). 1.3 This specification does not include requirements for the hydraulic design of these structures. Hydraulic design, placement of footings or inverts, and end treatments to resist scour are described in FHWA HDS No. 5. 1.4 Appendix X1 lists nominal dimensions of box culvert sizes commonly available for Type I, II, and IV box culverts. Also listed are cross-sectional area and hydraulic design parameters for these sizes. 1.1 This practice describes the procedures for testing and sealing individual sewer pipe joints with appropriate chemical grouts using the packer method. Sewer systems shall include sanitary, storm, and combined and their appurtenances. Chemical grouting is a soil sealing process, which seals the voids within the soil surrounding the exterior of the pipe at the point of leakage. Chemical grouting is not considered a structural repair. 1.2 This practice applies to sewers 6 in. to 42 in. (18 cm to 107 cm) in diameter. Larger diameter pipe may be grouted with specialized packers or man entry methods. Host pipe interior surfaces must be adequate to create an effective seal for the packer elements. 1.3 The values stated in inch-pound units are to be regarded as standard. 1.1 This specification covers the manufacture and purchase requirements of products used for assembly and construction of circular reinforced corrugated steel manholes used in sewer and water works. Products covered by this specification are not normally used for the conveyance of sanitary or industrial wastes. The steel sheet used in fabrication of the manhole structures has a protective metallic coating of zinc (galvanizing), aluminum, 55 % aluminum-zinc alloy, or zinc5 % aluminum-mischmetal alloy, or a polymer pre-coating. 1.2 Part I, Sections 1 through 11, of this specification presents general requirements and requirements that are common to each corrugated steel product in the sections outlined in 1.3. 1.3 Part II of this specification presents specific requirements for each manhole product in the following section: Product Section Grade Rings 12 Manhole Structures 13 Base Section 14 Steps and Ladders 15 1.4 Steel sheet with zinc, aluminized or polymeric coating may be specified for the fabrication of the manhole structures. Manhole structures made from sheets with composite coatings are always furnished with an approved coating. 1.1 This specification covers the design, material, and minimum performance requirements of resilient connectors used for connections between reinforced concrete structures conforming to Specifications C478 and C913 to corrugated steel drainage pipe conforming to Specifications A760 or A762. 1.1.1 These connectors are designed to provide a positive seal between the pipe and manholes or other structures subjected to internal and external hydrostatic pressures less than 10.8 psi [74 KPa]. 1.1.2 Testing under this standard is limited to hydrostatic pressures. Alternate air and vacuum pressure testing involve unique testing protocols and are not addressed under this standard. 1.1.3 Testing under this standard is conducted in a laboratory as a proof of design certification. Actual field performance testing would be accomplished and accepted under individual project performance standards or pipeline acceptance criteria, which is outside the scope of this standard.
