This International Standard applies to fixed inductors designed for electromagnetic interference suppression and which fall within the scope of the generic specification, IEC 60938-1. It is restricted to fixed inductors for which safety tests are appropriate. This implies that inductors specified according to this specification will either be connected to mains supplies, when compliance with the mandatory tests of table 1 is necessary, or used in other circuit positions where the equipment specification prescribes that some or all of these safety tests are required. This standard applies to fixed inductors which will be connected to an a.c. mains or other supply with a nominal voltage not exceeding 1 000 V a.c. (r.m.s.) or d.c. between conductors and with a nominal frequency not exceeding 400 Hz.

This International Standard applies to inductors designed for electromagnetic interference suppression intended for use within, or associated with, electronic or electrical equipment and machines. It is restricted to inductors for which safety tests are appropriate. The combination of two or more inductors within one enclosure is also included. Inductors within the scope of this standard may also be used to protect apparatus and machines from electrical noise and voltage or current transients coming from either the supply or from other parts of the apparatus. This standard does not necessarily apply in its entirety to inductors intended for use on motor vehicles, in aircraft or for marine applications.

This part of IEC 60770 specifies the following methods. ? Methods for – reviewing the functionality and the degree of intelligence in intelligent transmitters; – testing the operational behaviour, as well as the static and dynamic performance of an intelligent transmitter. ? Methodologies for – determining the reliability and diagnostic features used to detect malfunctions; – determining the communication capabilities of the intelligent transmitters in a communication network. The methods and methodologies are applicable to intelligent transmitters, which convert one or more physical, chemical or electrical quantities into digital signals for use in a communication network or into analogue electrical signals (as specified in the IEC 60381 series). The methods and methodologies listed in this part of IEC 60770 are intended for use by: – manufacturers to determine the performance of their products and – users or independent testing laboratories to verify equipment performance specifications. Manufacturers of intelligent transmitters are urged to apply this part of IEC 60770 at an early stage of development. This standard is intended to provide guidance for designing evaluations of intelligent transmitters by providing: – a checklist for reviewing the hardware and software design in a structured way; – test methods for measuring and qualifying the performance, dependability and operability under various environmental and operational conditions; – methods for reporting the data obtained.

This International Standard specifies marking codes for fixed inductors. The colour code specified in Clause 3 gives a colour coding for fixed inductors. It is intended for use with the values of the E 3 to E 24 series as specified in IEC 60063. The code specified in Clause 4 gives a system for marking inductance values by means of digits and letters. The code specified in Clause 5 gives a system for marking the tolerance on inductance values by means of letters. The code specified in Clause 6 gives a system for marking of date codes on fixed inductors by means of letters and digits.
