5.1 This test method was developed for evaluating the ac magnetic properties of laminated cores made from flat-rolled magnetic materials. 5.2 The reproducibility and repeatability of this test method are such that this test method is suitable for design, specification acceptance, service evaluation, and research and development. 1.1 This test method covers the determination of several ac magnetic properties of laminated cores made from flat-rolled magnetic materials. 1.2 This test method covers test equipment and procedures for the determination of impedance permeability and exciting power from voltage and current measurements, and core loss from wattmeter measurements. These tests are made under conditions of sinusoidal flux. 1.3 This test method covers tests for two general categories (1 and 2) of cores based on size and application. 1.4 Tests are provided for power and control size cores (Category 1) operating at inductions of 10 to 15 kG [1.0 to 1.5 T] and at frequencies of 50, 60, and 400 Hz. 1.5 Procedures and tests are provided for coupling and matching type transformer cores (Category 2) over the range of inductions from 100 G [0.01 T] or lower to 10 kG [1.0 T] and above at 50 to 60 Hz or above when covered by suitable procurement specifications. 1.6 This test method also covers tests for core loss and ac impedance permeability under incremental test conditions (ac magnetization superimposed on dc magnetization) for the above core types and at inductions up to those that cause the ac exciting current to become excessively distorted or reach values that exceed the limits of the individual test equipment components. 1.7 This test method shall be used in conjunction with Practice A34/A34M and Terminology A340. It depends upon these designated documents for detailed information which will not be repeated in this test method. 1.8 The values and equations stated in customary (cgs-emu and inch-pound) or SI units are to be regarded separately as standard. Within this standard, SI units are shown in brackets. The values stated in each system may not be exact equivalents; therefore, each system shall be used independently of the other. Combining values from the two systems may result in nonconformance with this standard. 1.9 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety and health practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.

This International Standard applies to transducers with electrical inputs and outputs for making measurements of a.c. or d.c. electrical quantities. The output signal may be in the form of an analogue direct current@ an analogue direct voltage or in digital form. In this case@ that part of the transducer utilized for communication purposes will need to be compatible with the external system. This standard applies to measuring transducers used for converting electrical quantities such as the following: ?C current@ ?C voltage@ ?C active power@ ?C reactive power@ ?C power factor@ ?C phase angle@ ?C frequency@ ?C harmonics or total harmonic distortion@ ?C apparent power to an output signal. This standard is not applicable for: ?C instrument transformers that comply with IEC 60044 series; ?C transmitters for use in industrial process applications that comply with the IEC 60770 series; ?C performance measuring and monitoring devices (PMD) that comply with IEC 61557-12. Within the measuring range@ the output signal is a function of the measurand. An auxiliary supply may be needed. This standard applies: a) if the nominal frequency of the input(s) lies between 0 Hz and 1 500 Hz; b) if a measuring transducer is part of a system for the measurement of a non-electrical quantity@ this standard may be applied to the electrical measuring transducer@ if it otherwise falls within the scope of this standard; c) to transducers for use in a variety of applications such as telemetry and process control and in one of a number of defined environments. This International Standard is intended: ?C to specify the terminology and definitions relating to transducers whose main application is in industry; ?C to unify the test methods used in evaluating transducer performance; ?C to specify accuracy limits and output values for transducers.

Scope and object This clause of Part 1 is applicable except as follows: Equipment included in scope Replacement: Replace the existing text with the following: This part of IEC 61010 specifies safety requirements for HAND-HELD and hand-manipulated current sensors described below. These current sensors are for measuring@ detecting or injecting current@ or indicating current waveforms on circuits without physically opening the current path of the circuit being measured. They may be stand-alone current sensors or accessories to other equipment or parts of combined equipment (see Figure 101). These include measurement circuits which are part of electrical test and measurement equipment@ laboratory equipment@ or process control equipment. The existence of these current sensors and circuits in equipment requires additional protective means between the current sensor@ the circuit and an OPERATOR. NOTE 1 This part includes also the requirements of Part 2-030. Testing and measuring circuits that are not within the scope of this part are considered to be covered by the requirements of Part 1 or other parts 2s of IEC 61010@ and then will also need to meet the requirements of these other parts with the exception of Part 2-030. Current clamp meters and similar currents sensors that have a primary purpose of measuring voltage on a live MAINS CIRCUIT are also within the scope of Part 2-033. NOTE 2 Some current sensors are also known as current clamps and current probes. Current sensors require hand manipulation before or after a test or measurement@ but do not necessarily need to be HAND-HELD during the test or measurement. NOTE 3 Some current sensors designed for portable use can also be used for fixed installations. The following types of current sensors are covered: a) Type A: a current sensor designed to be applied around or removed from UNINSULATED HAZARDOUS LIVE conductors. Type A current sensors have defined HAND-HELD or handmanipulated parts providing protection against electric shock from the conductor being measured@ and also have protection against short-circuits between wires and busbars during clamping. b) Type B: a current sensor which has protection against short-circuits between wires or busbars during clamping but without defined HAND-HELD or hand-manipulated parts which provide protection against electric shock during clamping. Additional protective means are necessary to avoid electric shock from HAZARDOUS LIVE conductors which cannot be deenergised during application or removal of the current sensor. EXAMPLE 1 Flexible current sensors. c) Type C: a current sensor without protection against short-circuits between wires or busbars during clamping. Type C current sensors are intended to be applied to or removed from UNINSULATED HAZARDOUS LIVE conductors or from non-limited-energy circuit conductors only when they are de-energised. EXAMPLE 2 Split-core transducers. d) Type D: a current sensor designed to be applied around or removed from insulated conductors or from limited-energy circuit conductors. A Type D current sensor does not need protection against short-circuits during clamping and has no defined HAND-HELD or hand-manipulated parts providing protection against electric shock from the conductor being measured. EXAMPLE 3 Current probes for oscilloscopes and earth leakage current detectors. NOTE 4 All current sensors can also be used around insulated conductors. In this case@ HAZARDS are limited to acceptable levels by the insulation of the conductors.

This part of CISPR 16 specifies the requirements for calibration test sites used to perform antenna calibrations and for reference test sites used to measure the antenna-pair reference site attenuation for compliance test site validations. It describes the test antenna characteristics, calibration and reference test site verification procedures and site compliance criteria. Further information on calibration site requirements, test antenna considerations and the theory of antennas and site attenuation is provided in informative annexes. Measurement instrumentation specifications are given in CISPR 16-1-1 and CISPR 16-1-4. Further information and background on uncertainties in general is given in CISPR 16-4-1, which may be helpful in establishing uncertainty estimates for the calibration processes of antennas.
