Diese Internationale Norm legt Anforderungen an Ausrustung, Verankerung, Masten und Zubehorteile fur Seilkrananlagen fest, die fur Messungen in Fliesgewassern verwendet werden. Sie beschreibt Seilkrananlagen, bei denen sich die Bedienperson entweder am Ufer oder in einem fur Personen zugelassenen Laufwagen (Seilkrananlagenkabine) befindet. Diese Internationale Norm ist nur fur Seilkrananlagen anwendbar, die fur hydrometrische Messungen eingesetzt werden. Sollte die Seilkrananlage als zugelassenes Hebezeug eingesetzt werden, gelten gegebenenfalls weitere Normen oder Bestimmungen. Abflussmessverfahren werden nicht in dieser Internationalen Norm, sondern in ISO 748 behandelt.

This International Standard specifies methods for determination of the concentrations and particle-size distributions of suspended sediment in streams and canals by surrogate techniques. Methods based on bulk-optical principle of water such as transmission and nephelometry are the most commonly used surrogates for determining suspended sediment concentrations (SSC). Instruments and techniques based on acoustic attenuation and/or acoustic backscatter principles are also in use for measurement of suspended sediment concentration. Instrumentation based on the laser diffraction principle is also used for the measurement of particle size distribution. This International Standard covers brief description of the operating principle of each method and details of some of the instruments available. The detailed method and principle of optical and acoustical transmission, nephelometry, and optical back scatter (OBS), laser diffraction technique (LD) and acoustic back scatter technique (ABS) with their limitations are described in Annex A, Annex B and Annex C respectively.

This International Standard specifies methods for the measurement of flow in rivers and artificial channels under steady or slowly varying flow conditions, using certain types of standing-wave, or critical-depth, flumes. A wide variety of flumes has been developed, but only those which have received general acceptance after adequate research and field testing, and which therefore do not require in situ calibration, are considered. The flow conditions considered are uniquely dependent on the upstream head, i.e. subcritical flow must exist upstream of the flume, after which the flow accelerates through the contraction and passes through its critical depth (see Figure 1). The water level downstream of the structure is low enough to have no influence upon its performance. This International Standard is applicable to three commonly used types of flumes, covering a wide range of applications, namely rectangular-throated, trapezoidal-throated and U-throated. Typical field installations are shown in Figure 2. Site conditions are important and Figure 3 shows acceptable velocity profiles in the approach channel. Detailed illustrations of the three types of flumes covered by this International Standard are given as follows: a) rectangular-throated (see Figure 4); c) U-throated, i.e. round-bottomed (see Figure 6). b) trapezoidal-throated (see Figure 5); It is not applicable to a form of flume referred to in the literature — sometimes called a “Venturi” flume — in which the flow remains subcritical throughout. NOTE This form is based on the same principle as a Venturi meter used within a closed conduit system and relies upon gauging the head at two locations and the application of Bernoulli’s energy equation.

This part of ISO 1100 specifies methods of determining the stage-discharge relationship for a gauging station. A sufficient number of discharge measurements, complete with corresponding stage measurements, are required to define a stage-discharge relationship to the accuracy required by this part of ISO 1100. Stable and unstable channels are considered, including brief descriptions of the effects on the stage-discharge relationship of shifting controls, variable backwater and hysteresis. Methods of determining discharge for twin-gauge stations, ultrasonic velocity-measurement stations, electromagnetic velocity-measurement stations and other complex rating curves are not described in detail. These types of rating curve are described separately in other International Standards, Technical Specifications and Technical Reports, which are listed in Clause 2 and the Bibliography.

This International Standard provides a summary of recommended methods for the determination of liquid flow in tidal channels, special consideration being given to those techniques that are either unique to or particularly appropriate for application under tidal conditions, including treatment of uncertainties. Reference is also made, where appropriate, to methods for the determination of flow in non-tidal channels, but attention is drawn to their limitations with respect to practicality and/or uncertainty. This International Standard does not describe alternative methods, such as the use of weirs, flumes, dilution gauging, salt velocity and floats, although they might be suitable under certain conditions, especially where the effect of tides only impedes and does not stop or reverse the passage of stream flow. These methods are described in detail in other International Standards. This International Standard specifies two types of technique: a) techniques for single measurements of tidal flow; b) techniques for continuous measurement of tidal flow. Annex A specifies the cubature method of measurement. Annex B specifies methods for the determination of flow under tidal conditions, and Annex C gives an example of the computation for a single vertical. Similar computations are possible for other verticals. Annex D describes the determination of tidal flow using an acoustic Doppler velocity meter.
