It is intended that the scope of this information report be limited to electrical heating of passenger, crew, and cargo compartments only. No attempt has been made to develop the complete electrical circuitry associated with the electrical heating components; however, the electrical circuitry required for heating component operation, safety, and monitoring will be included as available. Specific design information is given for various modern aircraft utilizing electrical heating. Each aircraft discussed will be identified by alphabetical letter designation and included in the appropriate appendix.

This Aerospace Information Report (AIR) contains technical information on aerospace hydraulic and actuation technologies lessons learned. The lessons learned were prepared by system designers and hydraulic engineers from the aerospace industry and government services as part of SAE Committee A-6, Aerospace Fluid Power, Actuation, and Control Technologies, and were presented at three Lessons Learned Symposia in 1989 and 1990 held during A-6 Committee meetings. The technical topics represent many years of design experience in hydraulics and actuation, which it is felt is a resource for learning that should be documented and made available to current and future aerospace hydraulic engineers and designers. The document is organized into two sections; systems and components, with further categories within the components section. The information topics are presented in a concise format of problem, issue, and solution, with accompanying descriptive diagrams and illustrations for clarity and understanding.

This International Standard establishes the general specifications for constant displacement hydraulic motors to be installed in aircraft, which transform hydraulic power into mechanical energy in the form of a rotational torque to 35 000 kPa systems. Primary and secondary function motors (see clause 3) are covered in this International Standard; actuators with internal rotation angle limits and low-speed motors are not covered in this International Standard. This International Standard shall be used in conjunction with the detail specification particular to each application.

This SAE Aerospace Recommended Practice (ARP) is intended to interpret and clarify engineering drawing requirements relating to the manufacture and inspection of fluid system couplings, tube fittings, and hose ends. Because it is impractical to define every minute detail of the part on the face of the drawing, this document describes interpretations of dimensioning of general machining features and otherwise undefined tolerances that fall under the heading of good shop practice. This document services as a supplement to engineering drawings when referenced on applicable documents.

Missile pumps are categorized by a moderate testing life and a relatively short operational service life. Generally, the pumps are operated at higher speeds, temperatures, and pressures than those used in manned aircraft systems, yet reliability must be extremely high, since there rarely is a redundant system aboard the missile. Due to the short but critical life and performance requirements, development, reliability and acceptance testing should be focused on eliminating infant mortality failures. Missile pumps must be compatible with very severe environmental conditions during the service life. In general, the temperature, vibration, shock, and acceleration encountered are more severe than those met in manned aircraft. This SAE Aerospace Information Report (AIR) will be confined to describing missile environments and pump usage that differ significantly from those normally encountered in manned aircraft. Since missile pumps are usually driven by a secondary power source, and since this AIR is intended for use by systems designers, as well as pump designers, a brief description of some of these sources and some potential problem areas associated with each are included for reference. A more detailed treatment of auxiliary power sources can be found in AIR744. Detailed test requirements are not included in this AIR since a wide variation exists between those operating conditions and environments that might be encountered on an air-to-air missile, hung beneath the wing of a fighter aircraft, and that of an ICBM (Intercontinental Ballistic Missile), launched from an environmentally controlled silo. Missile pumps frequently have their genesis in standard aircraft pumps, however, what distinguishes them from manned aircraft pumps is that they are usually operated outside of, or at the extreme of their long-life design parameters. Therefore, if a new design pump is being proposed for a missile application, environmental conditions referenced in this AIR should be considered, as opposed to long-life operation and environmental requirements of a manned aircraft, engine-driven pump.

This SAE Aerospace Information Report (AIR) discusses the terminology, types, method of manufacture and chemistry of fine wire meshes used for filtration of hydraulic, lubrication fuel systems, and similar applications. Information contained herein may be used for quality assurance testing to insure that a high performance filter grade wire mesh is acceptable for use in an aerospace application. This document pertains to meshes as coarse as 4 x 4 wires/cm (10 x 10 wires/in) or coarser, as well as to meshes as fine as 155 x 1100 wires/cm (400 x 2800 wires/in) or finer. Fine wire meshes refer to all wire meshes used for filtration, but also the coaser meshes used as a backup or supporting material.
