Scope

This standard specifies the safety requirements and test methods for the design and structure of portable pruning chain saws powered by internal combustion engines (see Figure 1). This standard is applicable to the chainsaws used for trimming branches and tree crowns, etc., with a net mass of not more than 4.3kg without saw chains and guide plates, and when the fuel tank is empty. This standard describes the methods to eliminate or reduce various hazards caused by the use of pruning chain saws, and specifies the information requirements for safe operation provided by the manufacturer. This standard does not propose technical measures for reducing noise and vibration, because different methods for reducing noise and vibration hazards are related to technologies adopted by manufacturers through various professional books or specialized institutions. Appendix A gives a list of various hazards. This standard does not address the environmental hazards of pruning chain saws. This standard applies to pruning chain saws produced after its promulgation and implementation.
