This standard specifies the anti-seismic requirements for high-voltage switchgear and control equipment, and specifies the principles for verifying anti-seismic performance by analysis, test or a combination of the two. This standard applies to all indoor and outdoor installations of high-voltage switchgear and controlgear operating in power systems with a nominal voltage of 3 kV and above and a frequency of 50 Hz and below, including their supporting structures rigidly connected to the ground. If the switchgear and controlgear are not ground-mounted, eg in buildings, the applicable conditions shall be by agreement between the user and the manufacturer. Seismic requirements for switchgear and controlgear take into account all auxiliary and control equipment, whether integral or separate. This standard gives test procedures for verifying the seismic performance of ground-mounted high-voltage switchgear and controlgear. Where applicable, the seismic performance of switchgear and controlgear needs to be verified. This standard also specifies ground acceleration levels for seismic performance and gives alternative methods suitable for verifying the performance of switchgear and controlgear requiring seismic resistance.
