本标准规定了船用导航雷达（以下简称雷达）接口及安装要求。 本标准适用于雷达设计、制造的准则和接口协调，也适用于雷达在船舶上的电气、机械安装，也适用于自动雷达标绘仪(ARPA)在船舶上的电气及机械安装。

GB/T31843 的本部分依据美国国家海洋电子协会2000(NMEA2000)标准制定。 NMEA2000 标准包含了关于串行数据通讯网络与实船安装的船用电子设备相互连接的最小应用要求。 依据本部分设计的设备应具备在单一信号传输通道中与兼容设备共享数据(包括指令和状态)的能力。 数据报文通过一系列数据帧进行传递,每个数据报文都包含错误及完整性检查,确保帧的传递和时延。 一个数据帧的实际数据内容至多占传递数据的一半,本部分主要适用于相对简短数据报文周期性传递,报文按要求或请求指令传递。 典型的数据包含离散的参数(如位置的纬度和经度),全球定位系统(GPS)状态值,自动驾驶操舵指令,有限参数列表(如航路点),和中等大小的数据块数据(如电子海图数据库更新数据)。 本部分不适用于如雷达、电子海图、视频数据或其他完整数据库或者文件传输应用的高带宽应用。 本部分定义国际标准化组织开放系统互联模型(ISO/OSI)所有从应用层至物理层相关的层,需要执行本部分的网络功能性要求。 本部分定义了数据格式、网络协议和设备到接口所需的最小物理层。 国际海上生命安全公约(SO-LAS)的应用应包含宛余设备(如双重网络.完余网络接口电路)以降低单点故障所带来的影响。 NMEA2000 标准提供支持宛余设备,总线和信息传递的基本工具和方法。 一些特定的船载设备的安装设计不在本部分的范围内,但本部分提供一些指导性文件参见附录A。
