Dieser Teil der ISO 14720 legt ein Verfahren zur Bestimmung des Schwefelgehaltes in pulver- und kornformigen nichtoxidischen keramischen Roh- und Werkstoffen fest, die bei erhohter Temperatur im Sauerstoffstrom vollstandig oxidieren, z. B. Kohlenstoff- und Graphitwerkstoffe. Bei Werkstoffen, die bei diesen Bedingungen nicht vollstandig oxidieren, ist mit dem festgelegten Verfahren auch der unter diesen Bedingungen freisetzbare Schwefel, z. B. der an der Probe anhaftende Schwefel, bestimmbar. Dieser Teil der ISO 14720 gilt fur Werkstoffe mit Massenanteilen an Schwefel 10 % und an Gluhruckstand < 20 %. Das festgelegte Verfahren ist auf Werkstoffe mit einem Massenanteil an Barium < 10 mg/kg beschrankt, da in Bariumsulfat gebundener Schwefel mit diesem Verfahren nicht erfasst werden kann. Als Richtwerte fur die untere Nachweisgrenze dieses Verfahrens gelten Massenanteile an Schwefel von 0,5 mg/kg bei Bestimmung mittels Optischer Emissionsspektrometer mit induktiv gekoppeltem Plasma (ICP OES) und 5 mg/kg bei Bestimmung mittels Ionenchromatographie (IC).

Dieser Teil der ISO 14720 legt ein Verfahren fur die Bestimmung des Schwefelgehaltes in Pulvern und Granulaten von nichtoxidischen keramischen Roh- und Werkstoffen, wie Siliciumcarbiden, Siliciumnitriden, Graphiten, (Flamm-)Rusen, Koksen und Kohlepulvern, fest. Bei nachgewiesener guter Wiederfindungsrate kann dieses Verfahren auch fur andere nichtmetallische pulver- oder kornformige (granulatformige) Roh- und Werkstoffe angewendet werden, z. B. Siliciumdioxid. Dieser Teil der ISO 14720 gilt fur Werkstoffe mit einem Massenanteil an Schwefel von 0,005 % bis 2 %. Dieser Teil der ISO 14720 kann auch auf Werkstoffe mit hoheren Massenanteilen an Schwefel nach Prufung im jeweiligen Einzelfall angewendet werden.

This part of ISO 14720 defines a method for the determination of sulfur in powdered and granular nonoxidic ceramic raw materials and materials, which are completely oxidized at a higher temperature in an oxygen atmosphere, e.g. carbon and graphite materials. For materials which are not completely oxidizable under these conditions, it is possible to determine sulfur that can be released under these conditions, e.g. the adherent sulfur. This part of ISO 14720 is applicable for materials with mass fractions of sulfur ≤ 10 % and mass fractions of ash < 20 %, The defined method is limited for materials with mass fractions of barium < 10 mg/kg, because the sulfur bonded in barium sulfate is not detectable with this method. For the lower detection limit of this method, a mass fraction of sulfur of 0,5 mg/kg in the case of inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometry (ICP/OES) and 5 mg/kg in the case of ion chromatography (IC) has to be considered as a recommended value.
