5.1 Thickness is one of the basic physical properties used to control the quality of rolled erosion control products. Thickness values may aid in the calculation of other rolled erosion control product parameters. Thickness however is not generally an indication of field performance and generally should not be used in specifications. This test method is developed to aid manufacturers, designers, and end users in comparing the thickness of rolled erosion control products through the use of an accepted ASTM standard. 5.2 The thickness of rolled erosion control products may vary considerably depending on the pressure applied to the specimen during measurement. Where observed changes occur, thickness decreases when applied pressure is increased. To minimize variation, specific sample size and applied pressure are indicated in this test method to ensure all results are comparable. 5.3 This test method may be used for acceptance testing of commercial shipments of rolled erosion control products, but caution is advised since information on between-laboratory precision is incomplete. Comparative tests in accordance with 5.3.1 may be advised. 5.3.1 In case of a dispute arising from differences in reported test results when using this test method for acceptance testing of commercial shipments, the purchaser and the supplier should conduct comparative tests to determine if there is a statistical bias between their laboratories. Competent statistical assistance is recommended for the investigation of bias. As a minimum, the two parties should take a group of test specimens that are as homogeneous as possible and that are formed from a lot of material of the type in question. The test specimens should be randomly assigned in equal numbers to each laboratory for testing. The average results from the two laboratories should be compared using Student’s t-test for unpaired data and an acceptable probability level chosen by the two parties before the testing is begun. If bias is found, either its cause must be found and corrected or the purchaser and supplier must agree to interpret future tests in light of the known bias. Note 1: The user should be aware that the compressibility of the materials, their rebound characteristics, and the like will also affect the thickness of the rolled erosion control products following the time they are rolled up on rolls, shipped, and stored. 1.1 This test method covers the measurement of the nominal thickness of rolled erosion control products. 1.2 This test method does not provide thickness values for rolled erosion control products under variable compressive stresses. This test method determines nominal thickness, not necessarily minimum thickness. 1.3 The values stated in either SI units or inch-pound units are to be regarded separately as standard. (1) This Technical Specification specifies an Up-flow Percolation Test (PT) which is applicable to determine the leaching behaviour of inorganic and non-volatile organic substances from granular construction products. The test is not suitable for substances that are volatile under ambient conditions. The construction products are subjected to percolation with water as a function of liquid to solid ratio under specified percolation conditions. The method is a once-through column leaching test. (2) This up-flow percolation test is performed under specified test conditions for construction products and does not necessarily produce results that mimic specific intended use conditions. This test method produces eluates, which can subsequently be characterized by physical, chemical and ecotoxicological methods according to existing standard methods. The results of eluate analysis are presented as a function of the liquid/solid ratio. The test results enable the distinction between different leaching behaviour. NOTE 1 Volatile organic substances include the low molecular weight substances in mixtures such as mineral oil. NOTE 2 It is not always possible to adjust test conditions simultaneously for inorganic and organic substances and test conditions may also vary between different groups of organic substances. Test conditions for organic substances are generally more stringent than those for inorganic substances. The test conditions are generally described in a way that they fit testing organic substances and are also applicable to inorganic substances depending on the set-up. NOTE 3 For ecotoxicity testing, eluates representing the release of both inorganic and organic substances are needed. In this document, ecotoxicological testing is meant to include also genotoxicological testing. Construction products that exhibit a saturated hydraulic conductivity of about 10-8 m/s or higher can usually be subjected to this test. This procedure is also applicable to materials showing solidification in the column, if the final hydraulic conductivity is within the specified range. Inert granular material should not be added to improve permeability in order to enable their testing. NOTE 4 This procedure is generally not applicable to products that are easily biologically degradable and products reacting with the leachant, leading, for example, to excessive gas emission or excessive heat release, impermeable hydraulically bound products or products that swell in contact with water.

This European Standard is an index test used to determine the efficiency with which a geosynthetic product will protect a geosynthetic barrier or other contact surface against the mechanical long term effects of static point loads. The test is performed on the geosynthetic product in isolation. It measures the strains experienced by a geosynthetic product in contact with a deformable pad. NOTE Other properties relevant to the protection of geosynthetic barriers against differing actions are covered by other standards, e. g. dynamic perforation is covered in EN ISO 13433. Das Hauptaugenmerk dieser Internationalen Norm liegt auf der Eigenschaftsänderung von Filtern aus Vliesstoff, da diese häufig unter Bedingungen verwendet werden, die den in dieser Internationalen Norm beschriebenen Prüfgasbedingungen ähneln. Die durch dieses Prüfverfahren erlangten Ergebnisse sind nicht dafür vorgesehen, die vollständigen Eigenschaften kompletter Filteranlagen vorherzusagen. Dennoch unterstützen sie die Konstruktion von Taschenfiltern, die Auswahl und Entwicklung geeigneter abreinigbarer Filtermedien und die Identifizierung zweckmäßiger Betriebsparameter.
