1.1 This specification covers heat-treated alloy steel axles for mass transit and commuter cars in electric and locomotive hauled railway service. 1.2 This specification is for solid design roller bearing axles with machined bodies. 1.3 Various axle designs are used for this service including motor and non-motor with either inboard or outboard journals. 1.4 Supplementary requirements including those in the general requirements of Specification A788/A788M are provided for use when additional testing or inspection is desired. These shall apply only when specified individually by the purchaser in the order. 1.5 Unless the order specifies the applicable “M” specification designation, the axles shall be furnished to the inch-pound units. 1.6 The values stated in either SI units or inch-pound units are to be regarded separately as standard. The values stated in each system may not be exact equivalents; therefore, each system shall be used independently of the other. Combining values from the two systems may result in non-conformance with the standard.

This European Standard defines the specific technical railway requirements for working with machines and other vehicles used for construction, maintenance and inspection of track, structures, track formation and fixed electric traction equipment as specified in EN 14033-1. This European Standard applies to all railbound machines and other vehicles - referred to as machines - working exclusively on the railway (utilising adhesion between the rail and rail wheels) and used for construction, maintenance and inspection of track, structures, infrastructure and fixed electric traction equipment. This European Standard applies to machines that are intended to operate signalling and control systems. Other similar machines are dealt with in other European Standards, see Annex M. Additional requirements can apply for working on infrastructures with narrow gauge or broad gauge lines, lines of tramways, railways utilising other than adhesion between the rail and rail wheels and underground infrastructures. This European Standard is applicable to 1 435 mm nominal track gauge. Some requirements may be applicable for working on infrastructures with nominal narrow track gauge or nominal broad track gauge lines, lines of tramways, railways utilising other than adhesion between the rail and rail wheels and underground infrastructures. This European Standard covers the safety requirements for the railway specific problems for working on different infrastructures. The application of these requirements is the object of a verification procedure, which does not form part of this European Standard, but an Annex J is included for information. In all cases an authorisation to work is required to access the infrastructure. This European Standard is also applicable for machines that in working position are partly supported on the ballast or the formation. This European Standard does not apply to  the requirements with regard to the quality of work, including the related measuring methods, and the performance of the machine;1)  the specific requirements established by each railway infrastructure manager for the use of machines which will be the subject of negotiation between the manufacturer and the infrastructure manager. This European Standard does not deal with the following additional requirements:  working methods;  operation in severe working conditions requiring special measures (e.g. work in tunnels or in cuttings, extreme environmental conditions such as freezer applications, high temperatures, corrosive environment, tropical environment, contaminating environments, strong magnetic fields);  operation subject to special rules (e.g. potentially explosive atmospheres);  hazards due to errors in software;  hazards occurring when used to handle suspended loads which may swing freely;  hazards due to wind pressure greater than normal e.g. pressures caused by the passing of trains at speed in excess of 190 km/h.

This European Standard specifies the requirements for the homologation of track geometry quality parameters as measured by various measuring devices fitted on track recording vehicles." These measuring devices are described in Part 2" of the standard. This European Standard applies to all track geometry parameters including track gauge, longitudinal level, alignment, cross level (cant / superelevation) and twist. It defines each parameter and specifies the requirements for measurement, the analysis methods and the presentation of results. Parts 3 and 4 give a description of measuring devices complying partially with this Part 1 according to the specificities of respectively track construction and maintenance machines, and manual and lightweight devices."

This Part 1 of EN 50382 specifies the general requirements applicable to the cables given in EN 50382-2. It includes the detailed requirements for the insulating and sheathing materials and other components called up in EN 50382-2. In particular EN 50382-1 specifies those requirements relating to fire safety. Based on proven experience and reliability over many years these cables are rated for occasional thermal stresses causing ageing equivalent to continuous operational life at a conductor temperature of either 120 °C or 150 °C. NOTE This rating is based upon the polymer defined in 3.1. Before this polymer had gained widespread acceptance in the cable industry, ageing performance had been assessed via long term thermal endurance testing and had been extrapolated to 20 000 h using techniques equivalent to those in EN 60216. Subsequent experience in service has demonstrated that the predicted performance levels were correct. Where extrapolated data is used to predict lifetime in service it should be confirmed with the cable manufacturer, and should be based on a failure mode appropriate to the type of material or cable. The maximum temperature for short circuit conditions for silicone rubber is 350 °C based on a duration of 5 s. Although both of the insulating and one of the sheathing compounds specified in this standard are thermally capable of operating at 150 °C, where tinned conductors are used the maximum operating temperature is limited to 120 °C and for the same technical reason the maximum short circuit temperature, for tinned copper conductors, is limited to 250 °C. The choice of sheath may also limit the operating temperature to 120 °C. This Part 1 should be used in conjunction with EN 50382-2.

Part 2 of EN 50382 specifies requirements for, and constructions and dimensions of, single core cables of the following types and voltage ratings: – 1,8/3 kV unscreened, unsheathed with or without textile braid (1,5 mm² to 400 mm²); – 1,8/3 kV unscreened, sheathed (1,5 mm² to 400 mm²); – 3,6/6 kV unscreened, unsheathed with or without textile braid (2,5 mm² to 400 mm²); – 3,6/6 kV unscreened, sheathed (2,5 mm² to 400 mm²). All cables have class 5 or class 6 tinned or plain copper conductors to EN 60228, halogen-free insulation and where applicable halogen-free sheath. They are for use in railway rolling stock as fixed wiring, or wiring where limited flexing in operation is encountered. The requirements provide for a continuous conductor temperature not exceeding 120 °C or 150 °C and a maximum temperature for short circuit conditions of either 250 °C or 350 °C based on a duration of 5 s. When the insulating compounds and sheath specified in this standard which are thermally capable of operating at 150 °C are used with tinned conductors, the maximum operating temperature is limited to 120 °C and, for the same technical reason, the maximum short circuit temperature is limited to 250 °C. The choice of sheath may also limit the maximum operating temperature to 120 °C. A textile braid may be included in the insulation or applied at its surface to unsheathed cables. Under fire conditions the cables exhibit special performance characteristics in respect of maximum permissible flame propagation (flame spread) and maximum permissible emission of smoke and toxic gases. This Part 2 of EN 50382 should be used in conjunction with Part 1 “General requirements”.

This series of standards applies to welding of metallic materials in the manufacture and maintenance of railway vehicles and their parts. This part of the series specifies design and classification rules applicable to the manufacture and maintenance of railway vehicles and their parts. Upon agreement with the customer, drawings issued prior to this European Standard may be subject to the provisions of this European Standard. This European Standard does not define parameters for the dimensioning (refer to other standards e.g. on fatigue testing).

This standard contains basic specifications relative to the layout of railway lines in underground mining. The layout of lines ranks among the determining factors for planning and heading of the line network since the speed of the trains and the wear of tracks and rolling stock are i.a. controlled by the track curves and by the geometrical data of roadway junctions. Furthermore, roadway cross section and rolling stock need to be matched to each other.#,,#
