This chapter of GB 4706.1-2005 is replaced by the following content. This part applies to the safety of household and similar electric washing machines for washing clothes and textiles, with a rated voltage not exceeding 250V for single-phase appliances and 480V for other appliances. This standard also applies to the safety of household and similar electric washing machines using electrolyte instead of detergent. Additional requirements for such appliances are given in Annex CC. Appliances not intended for ordinary household use are included in this scope as long as they are likely to pose a danger to the public, for example for the infirm in shops or for use in light industry and agriculture. This section deals with common hazards arising from appliances that may be encountered by all persons in the home or its surroundings. However, this standard does not normally take into account: - persons (including young children): who: have frail, sensory or intellectual abilities; or lack knowledge and experience. To prevent them from using the appliance without supervision or guidance; - Situations where young children play with the appliance.
