This standard specifies the requirement of the draw gear and screw coupling for the end rolling stock which have to couple with other interoperable rolling stock (freight wagons, locomotives, passenger vehicles ...). This standard covers the functionality construction, interfaces, testing including pass fail criteria for draw gear and screw coupling. The standard describes three categories of classification of draw gear and screw coupling, (1 MN, 1,2 MN and 1,5 MN).

This European Standard applies to new designs of locomotives and passenger carrying rolling stock as defined in categories C-I to C-IV of Clause 4 taking into consideration the recommendations given in Annex E on the application of the standard (migration rule). It is intended to protect vehicle occupants, through the preservation of structural integrity, and does not extend to other railway employees and customers who are not in vehicles, or to third parties. The specified requirements relate to the technical and operational conditions of use that prevail in the CEN member countries. The design of new vehicles for use in passenger trains is based on operations with compatible rolling stock that also meet this standard. It is recognised that operational requirements will require new crashworthy and existing non-crashworthy vehicles to exist in the same train unit but such combinations of vehicles are not required to comply with this European Standard.

This document provides guidance on applying the RAM requirements in EN 50126-1 to rolling stock and for dealing with RAM activities during the system life cycle phases from invitation to tender to demonstration in operation only. All references to EN 50126-1 concern the version of 1998. The guide is aimed at the customers/operators and main suppliers of rolling stock. The main purpose of the guide is to: • enable a customer/operator of rolling stock: − to specify the RAM requirements addressing the type of operation in terms of the end customer needs, considering service availability and economic considerations; − to evaluate different tenders, in terms of RAM requirements, on a common basis with the aid of specific RAM documents; − to gain assurance, during design/development phase, that the rolling stock being offered is likely to satisfy the RAM contractual requirements by examining step by step detailed and specific RAM documents as an output of the RAM activities performed during the development phase; − to validate that the rolling stock, as delivered, satisfies the specified RAM requirements • to enable the main supplier of rolling stock − to understand the customers/operators RAM requirements − to provide substantive information/visibility in a tender to show that the product offered is likely to satisfy the RAM requirements by performing preliminary RAM analysis; − to provide substantive information during design/development phase to show that the product offered is likely to satisfy the RAM requirements by performing detailed RAM analysis; − to demonstrate that the product delivered satisfies the RAM requirements; Regarding LCC, this application guide is restricted to providing only the key RAM parameters necessary to be incorporated into an LCC Model. This application guide excludes: • RAM values connected to the different RAM requirements (however, it contains a simple guide line of actions for supporting the decision making process and choosing appropriate values, see 5.4) • specific RAM documents to be produced and activities to be performed. However, it provides, only as an example, typical data and document templates for recording the output of a RAM analysis).

This Technical Specification applies to electrical systems on board trolley buses, as defined in 1.3.1, fed with a nominal line voltage (Un) between 600 V d.c. and 750 V d.c. This Technical Specification defines the requirements and constructional hints, especially to avoid danger of electrical kind to the public and to the personnel. CLC/TS 50502 is normative only for vehicles ordered and designed after publication of the same. This Technical Specification covers vehicles intended for public transport of persons. It refers mainly to earthed networks, but reference is made also to galvanically insulated networks. Annexes B and C are related to the connection systems. The detailed scope of these annexes is given in Annex B.

The requirements apply to the vehicle body, and to those mechanical elements directly associated with it that may be used to absorb energy in a collision, such as couplers, buffing systems etc. They do not cover the safety features of doors, windows, system components or interior features except for specific issues relating to the preservation of survival space. The requirements do not cover all possible accident scenarios but provide a level of crashworthiness that will reduce the consequences of an accident, when the active safety measures have been inadequate. The requirement is to provide a level of protection by addressing the most common types of collision that cause injuries and fatalities. The applicable design collision scenarios, and suitable parameters for normal European operations, are given in Clause 5. Annex A gives additional information regarding the derivation of the scenarios and describes situations when they may need to be modified and the processes that should then be followed. This European Standard identifies common methods of providing passive safety that may be adopted to suit individual vehicle requirements. This European Standard also specifies the characteristics of reference obstacle models for use in the design collision scenarios. Not all vehicles in a train unit have to incorporate energy absorption provided that passenger train configurations formed entirely of new vehicle designs comply as a whole with this European Standard. This European Standard also specifies the requirements for demonstrating that the passive safety objectives have been achieved by comparison with existing proven designs, numerical simulation, component or full-size tests, or a combination of all these methods.

This Standard covers the requirements for random vibration and shock testing items of mechanical, pneumatic, electrical and electronic equipment/components (hereafter only referred to as "equipment") to be fitted on to railway vehicles. Random vibration is the only method to be used for equipment/component approval. The tests contained within this Standard are specifically aimed at demonstrating the ability of the equipment under test to withstand the type of environmental vibra- tion conditions normally expected for railway vehicles. In order to achieve the best representation possible, the values quoted in this Standard have been derived from actual service measurements submitted by various bodies from around the world. This Standard is not intended to cover self-induced vibrations as these will be spe- cific to particular applications. Engineering judgement and experience is required in the execution and interpre- tation of this Standard. This Standard is suitable for design and validation purposes; however, it does not exclude the use of other development tools (such as sine sweep), which may be used to ensure a predetermined degree of mechanical and operational confidence. To as- sist product design for compliance with this Standard, guidance is given in Annex B which allows comparison with alternative design methods. The test levels to be applied to the item under test and dictated only by its loca- tion on the train (i.e. axle, bogie or body-mounted). It should be noted that these tests may be performed on prototypes in order to gain design information about the product performance under random vibration. However, for attestation of testing purposes the tests have to be carried out on equipment taken from normal production. This Standard specifies the requirements for testing items of equipment intended for use on railway vehicles which are subsequently subjected to vibrations and shock owing to the nature of railway operational environment. To gain assurance that the quality of the item is acceptable, it has to withstand tests of reasonable duration that simulate the service conditions seen throughout its expected life. Simulated long-life testing can be achieved in a number of ways each having their associated advantages and disadvantages, the following being the most common: a) amplification: where the amplitudes are increased and the time base decreased; b) time compression: where the amplitude history is retained and the time base is decreased; c) decimation: where time slices of the historical data are removed when the am- plitudes are below a specified threshold value.
