Scope
This part of GB/T 18978 provides recommendations on the attributes and evaluation of user guidance for software user interfaces. The user guide specified in this part refers to the supplementary information part of the routine man-machine dialogue that is provided at the request of the user or automatically provided by the system. As a supplement to the general guidance provided in this part, Parts 12, 14, 15 and 17 of GB/T 18978 provide user guidance recommendations for specific dialogs. This section applies to interactive components that help users recover from error states. Advice covered in this section includes tips, feedback and status, error management, online help, and general advice for all these types of user guides. While user support can be provided in other ways (eg online tutorials, online documentation, intelligent system performance assistance), these are not covered in this section. The recommendations presented in this section are not dependent on a specific application, environment, or implementation technology. The latter addresses typical situations where there are specific needs for information and behaviour. Like other parts of GB/T 18978, this part can be adopted in whole or in part. For example, if the software does not provide browsable help, it is not necessary to refer to the user guide recommendations in this regard.
