This part of GB 12476 specifies the general requirements for the design, construction, testing and marking of electrical equipment protected by recognized protection techniques in environments where the amount of combustible dust present may cause a fire or explosion hazard. This part is supplemented or modified by the following special explosion-proof type standards in GB 12476: -- Part 4: Intrinsically safe type "iD" -- Part 5: Enclosure protection type "tD"; -- Part 6: Encapsulated type " mD";--Part 7: Positive pressure protection type "pD". For electrical equipment used in an environment where flammable gases and flammable dust may appear simultaneously or separately, some additional protective measures are required. This section does not specify safety requirements other than immediate and explosive hazards. When electrical equipment must comply with other environmental requirements, such as waterproof and anti-corrosion and other protection methods are used, the protection methods must not adversely affect the integrity of the enclosure. This section applies to combustible dust environments formed under atmospheric conditions. This section does not apply to those explosive dusts or pyrophoric substances that do not require atmospheric oxygen to burn. This section does not apply to electrical equipment used in underground coal mines and coal mine ground installations where gas and/or combustible dust may cause hazards. This section does not consider the hazards caused by flammable or toxic gases emitted by dust.
