This SAE Recommended Practice defines a clearance line for establishing dimensional compatibility between drum brakes and wheels with 19.5 in, 22.5 in, and 24.5 in diameter rims. Wheels designed for use with drum brakes may not be suitable for disc brake applications. The clearance line establishes the maximum envelope for brakes and minimum envelope for complete wheels to allow for interchangeability. This document addresses the dimensional characteristics only, and makes no reference to the performance, operational dynamic deflections, or heat dissipation of the system. Valve clearances have not been included in the fitment lines. Bent valves may be required to clear brake drums. Disc brake applications may require additional running clearances beyond those provided by the minimum contour lines. Mounting systems as noted are referenced in SAE J 694.

This SAE Recommended Practice provides uniform procedures and minimum performance requirements for fatigue testing ferrous and aluminum wheels intended for normal highway use on travel, camping, and boat and light utility trailers drawn by passenger cars, light trucks, and multipurpose vehicles. For procedures and minimum performance requirements for wheels used on trucks, see SAE J267, and for wheels used on passenger cars, see SAE J328. For the application of passenger car and light truck wheels (inset less than 0.10 m (0.33 ft)) to this trailer service, use this procedure. For the application of heavier truck wheels (inset 0.10 m (0.33 ft) or more) use SAE J267. Mobile home service is outside the scope of this document. There are two basic test procedures described, a cornering fatigue test and radial fatigue test. The cornering test is directed at the wheel disc; whereas the radial test also examines the rim and attachment portion of the wheel. Both test procedures are required to obtain a thorough examination of the wheel.

This lab test procedure should be used when evaluating the combined corrosion and fatigue performance for a particular coating system, substrate, process and design. The test is intended to provide an A to B comparison of a proposed coil spring design versus an existing field validated coil spring when subjected to the combined effects of corrosion and fatigue. The corrosion mechanisms covered by this test include general, cosmetic, and pitting corrosion. Fatigue testing covers the maximum design stress and/or stress range of the coil spring design (typically defined as excursion from jounce to rebound positions in a vehicle). The effects of gravel and heat are simulated by pre-conditioning the springs prior to fatigue testing. Time dependant corrosion mechanisms such as stress corrosion cracking are not addressed with this test.

This SAE Recommended Practice contains dimensions and their tolerances concerning disc wheel to hub or drum interface areas for commercial vehicles and multipurpose passenger vehicles. Stamped disc wheels for single applications and special or less common applications are not covered in this document. This document defines wheel mounting systems and documents the dimensions and tolerances necessary to maintain serviceability, and interchangeability in the interface areas. To be consistent with ISO, it is devided into two sections (I and II). Section I is in concert with ISO 4107, describing mounting systems currently used internationally and nominated for, or included in, the international standard for bolt circle interfaces. Section II records informaiton on current mounting systems also used in North America. Components of different mounting systems with common bolt patterns could be mis-assembled together and cause service problems. Therefore, it is important to note that each mounting system should be treated individually and their components not be intermixed.

This SAE Recommended Practice establishes uniform engineering nomenclature for wide base disc wheels and demountable rims. This nomenclature and accompanying figures are intended to define fundamental wide base disc wheels and demountable rim terms. The dimensions given are those necessary to maintain serviceability and interchangeability of the wide base disc wheels and demountable rims with standard hardware. Valve clearances have not been included in this document.

This test method differentiates among greases having distinctly different low-temperature characteristics. This test is used for specification purposes and correlates with its precursor which has been used to predict the performance of greases in automotive wheel bearings in low-temperature service. It is the responsibility of the user to determine the correlation with other types of service.1.1 This test method covers the determination of the extent to which a test grease retards the rotation of a specially-manufactured, spring-loaded, automotive-type wheel bearing assembly when subjected to low temperatures. Torque values, calculated from restraining-force determinations, are a measure of the viscous resistance of the grease. This test method was developed with greases giving torques of less than 35 N·m at −40°C. 1.2 The values stated in SI units are to be regarded as standard. No other units of measurement are included in this standard. 1.3 WARNINGMercury has been designated by many regulatory agencies as a hazardous material that can cause central nervous system, kidney and liver damage. Mercury, or its vapor, may be hazardous to health and corrosive to materials. Caution should be taken when handling mercury and mercury containing products. See the applicable product Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) for details and EPA’s websitehttp://www.epa.gov/mercury/faq.htmfor additional information. Users should be aware that selling mercury and/or mercury containing products into your state or country may be prohibited by law. 1.4 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety and health practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.

This test method differentiates among wheel bearing greases having distinctly different high-temperature leakage characteristics. It is not the equivalent of longtime service tests. This test method has proven to be helpful in screening greases with respect to leakage tendencies for automotive wheel bearing applications. Note 18212;It is possible for skilled operators to observe changes in grease characteristics that can occur during the test, such as grease condition. Leakage is reported as a quantitative value, whereas the evaluation of grease condition is subject to differences in personal judgment among operators and cannot be used effectively for quantitative measurements.1.1 This test method covers a laboratory procedure for evaluating leakage tendencies of wheel bearing greases when tested under prescribed conditions. 1.2 The values stated in SI units are to be regarded as standard. No other units of measurement are included in this standard. The exception is apparatus dimensions, in inches, which are to be regarded as the standard. 1.3 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety and health practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use. This International Standard deals with electronic Tyre Pressure Monitoring Systems (TPMS) for tubeless tyres in association or not with an extended mobility system, with a reference pressure lower or equal to 375 kPa, fitted in single formation on four wheeled vehicles. The systems are able to survey all tyres in use but not necessarily those in temporary use and provide information to the driver. This International Standard establishes overall performance guidelines for the systems and their components, independently of the physical principles and the technological solution which have been selected to monitor the tyre pressure, to compute the difference to the requested level and to deliver a relevant information to the driver if the pressure of one, several or all tyres needs corrective action for the intended service conditions.
