This test method shall be used to verify the structural integrity of certain hydraulic components under pressure impulse-type loading. For the purpose of pressure impulse testing the hydraulic system components shall be divided into passive and active components. This standard establishes the requirements and the procedures for impulse testing of passive hydraulic components only. Unless otherwise specified in the detail specification or in existing component related standards, the following procedures shall be used. Active hydraulic components shall be tested according to tailored test requirements as specified in detail specifications.

This SAE Aerospace Standard (AS) provides requirements for components that are used in commercial aircraft hydraulic systems. It is to be used in conjunction with a Procurement Specification for each component. This specification shall be used to develop Procurement Specifications for components. It also provides information to be included in the Procurement Specification in Appendix A and a checklist for design reviews in Appendix B. It does not provide information on distribution elements such as hoses, pipe couplings and general tubing.

This SAE Aerospace Recommended Practice (ARP) is intended as a guide in defining the requirements for aerospace piston separated hydraulic accumulators, including details pertinent to the design, fabrication, and performance of the accumulator. This type of accumulator has a piston separator and contains both high-pressure gas and fluid. The accumulator is used in aerospace hydraulic systems of the following types as defined in SAE AS 5440 with design operating pressures of up to 8000 psi (55,160 kPa). Type I: -65 to +160 °F (-54 to +71 °C) fluid temperature Type II: -65 to +275 °F (-54 to +135 °C) fluid temperature For commercial aerospace or helicopter applications, the information and guidelines of SAE ARP 4752 or SAE ARP 4925 respectively, are considered.

This standard specifies the installation and removal requirements for adaptors, threaded, with lockring for pipe couplings 8?0' according to EN 2603. This standard establishes an accurate procedure of adaptor installation, removal and reinstallation to ensure the repeatability of the installation operation and to ensure the effective compliance to sealing and locking requirements. The adaptor shown on all figures of this standard is given as an example for the 8?0' interface according to EN 2604. This procedure is used for adaptors 8?0', for nominal pressure up to 28000 kPa.

This Aerospace Standard (AS) covers scarf-cut polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) retainers (back-up rings) for use in static glands in accordance with AS5857. They are for use in hydraulic and pneumatic system components as anti-extrusion devices in conjunction with O-rings, packings and other elastomeric seals. Because of the construction of groove dimensions, back-ups specific to rod applications are designated R - Rod (Female), back-ups specific to piston applications are designated P - Piston (Male). Retainers specified herein have been designed for a temperature range of -65 °F to 275 °F (-54 °C to 135 °C) and a nominal operating pressure of 3000 psi (20.7 MPa) for code 09 material and 5000 psi (34.5 MPa) for code 10 material. Material codes are based on AMS 3678 material types. Consideration has been made to accommodate cylinder breathing on piston applications, calculated at .002 inch/inch diameter/1,000 psi (.051 mm/mm diameter/6.9 MPa) to ensure a minimum 50% lap at -65 °F (-54 °C). This has required an increase in the diameter on certain larger sizes and a slight overlap at ambient will therefore be apparent. These parts have been designed such that the overlap at 275 °F (135 °C) will not result in axial compression of the O-rings, even in the worst tolerance stack-up situation.
