This part of GB/T 14598 is based on GB/T 17626.5-2008, with reference to the applicable parts of this standard, and specifies the general requirements for surge tests. These tests apply to measuring relays and protective devices used in electrical power systems, including control, monitoring and process interface equipment used with these devices. The purpose of the test is to verify that the device under test can work correctly when it is excited and subjected to high-energy disturbances generated by switch on-off and lightning strikes on the power supply and interconnection lines. This section is not suitable for testing the ability of insulation to withstand high voltage. The insulation test is specified in GB 14598.27-2008. The requirements of this standard apply to new measuring relays and protective devices. All tests specified are type tests only. The purpose of this standard is to specify: Terminology used; Test severity level; Test equipment; Test configuration; Test procedure; Acceptance criteria; Test report.
