Scope: This part of GB/T 14598 specifies the minimum requirements for thermal protection relays. This part includes the specification of protection functions, measurement characteristics and test methods. The purpose of this standard is to establish a general and reusable benchmark for evaluating variable time relays that protect the equipment from electrothermal damage by measuring the alternating current flowing through the equipment being protected. Supplementary input stimuli (such as ambient, coolant, maximum oil temperature and winding temperature) may apply to the thermal protection specifications specified in this part. This standard covers protective relays based on thermal models with memory functions. This standard also includes test methods for the performance characteristics and accuracy of thermal protection functions. This part does not cover the thermal overload protection tripping classes specified in IEC 60947-4-1 and IEC 60947-4-2 involving electromechanical and electronic protective devices for low-voltage motor starters. The thermal protection functions covered by this standard are as follows: General requirements for measuring relays and protective devices are as specified in IEC 60255-1.
