This part of GB/T 5169 describes a test method consisting of two small-scale test procedures, the purpose of which is to compare the combustion characteristics of different materials in electrical and electronic products. Expose the vertical strip sample or the horizontal plate sample to a small flame ignition source with a nominal power of 500 W. This test method is used to classify the properties of materials using specimens of two shapes. Rectangular strip specimens are used to evaluate the ignitability and combustibility of the specimens, while square plate specimens are used to assess the burnthrough resistance of the specimens, as detailed in 8.3.3. This test method is only applicable to materials complying with V-0 or V-1 in IEC 60695-11-10. This test method is only applicable to solid/microporous materials with an apparent density greater than 250 kg/m3 as determined by the method of ISO 845; it is not applicable to materials that curl up because they are too thin and will not ignite in a fire. The classification method specified in this test method can be used for quality assurance, preselection of materials for product components, or to verify the minimum fire rating required for materials used in finished products. If used for preselection, the thickness of the test piece should correspond to the minimum thickness used for the product application in order to obtain true results. Although the test results provide some characteristics of the plastic in use, it cannot be used alone to determine the safety performance of the material in use. This part is intended for product standards committees to prepare standards according to the principles specified in IEC Guide 104:2010 and ISO/IEC Guide 51:1999. One of the tasks of the Product Standards Committee is to use this series of standards wherever applicable when writing its own standards. Unless specifically mentioned or listed in the relevant standard, the requirements, test methods or test conditions of this section will not apply.
