Scope
This part of GB 3883 deals with electric motor or electromagnet drive: -- Hand-held electric tools (Part 2); -- Portable electric tools (Part 3); -- Garden tools (Part 4). Hereinafter referred to as "Tool". The rated voltage of AC single-phase or DC tools is not greater than 250 V, and the rated voltage of AC three-phase tools is not greater than 440 V. The maximum rated input power does not exceed 3 700 W. This section deals with the hazards caused by tools that people encounter during normal operation and reasonably foreseeable use of tools. Tools with electric heating elements are within the scope of this standard. The requirements for these heating elements are specified in the relevant parts of GB 4706. For motors that are not isolated from the grid and whose basic insulation is not designed according to the rated voltage of the tool, the requirements are specified in Appendix B. For electric motor-driven or solenoid-driven tools powered by rechargeable batteries and battery packs for these tools, the requirements are specified in Appendix K. For such tools that can be operated and/or charged directly from the mains or non-isolated power supply, the requirements are specified in Appendix L. Hand-held power tools that can be mounted to a stand or workbench as a stationary tool without any modifications to the tool itself fall within the scope of this Part and are regulated by Part 3. This section does not apply to: - tools used in explosive atmospheres (dust, vapor or gas); - tools for preparing and processing food; - tools for medical use; - tools used with cosmetics and pharmaceuticals; - heating tools; - household or similar electrical appliances driven by electric motors; - electrical equipment for industrial machine tools; - small bench-top tools driven by low-voltage transformers for making models, such as remote-controlled airplane models or car models, etc.
