This chapter in GB 4706.1-1998 is replaced by the following. This standard applies to the safety of liquid heaters for domestic and similar purposes with a rated voltage not exceeding 250V. NOTE 1 Some appliances can also heat food. 2 This standard applies to the following appliances: —— Kettles and other appliances for producing boiling water with a rated volume not exceeding 10 L; ——Coffee pots; ——Egg cookers; ——Milk heaters; ——Feeding bottle heaters; - pressure cooker with rated cooking pressure not exceeding 140KPa and rated volume not exceeding 10L; - cooking pan; - stewing pot; - yogurt maker; - steamer; - cleaning boiler. This standard also applies to appliances other than those for general household use which are still dangerous to the public. Example: Appliances used by persons unfamiliar with electricity in shops, light industry and farms. Note 3 For example: - livestock feed digesters; - sterilizers; - glue pots with water jackets. This standard also applies, as far as practicable, to the common hazard that the appliance may present to all persons in and around the room. This standard does not take into account: - use of appliances by unsupervised children and infirm persons; - use of appliances by children as toys. NOTE 4 – For appliances intended to be used in motor vehicles, boats or aircraft, additional requirements are generally required; – for appliances intended to be used in tropical countries, special requirements are generally required; – in many countries, additional requirements are determined by national health Ministry of labor, national labor protection department, water supply department or similar authority. 5 This standard does not apply to: - fryers and deep fat fryers (IEC 60335-2-13); - storage water heaters (IEC 60335-2-21); - instant water heaters (IEC 60335- 2-35); - Surface cleaners using liquids (IEC 60335-2-54); - Commercial boilers and liquid heaters (IEC 60335-2-63); - Portable immersion heaters (IEC 60335 -2-74); - medical appliances (IEC 60601); - special industrial appliances; - appliances used in special environments, such as corrosive or explosive environments (dust, steam or gas); - high - frequency heaters; - electrode type heaters; - dry or steam pressure sterilizers. 6 In many countries the requirements for pressure vessels also apply to pressure cookers
